Dr James Phelan is the award-winning author of 30 books, including thrillers, young adult, and middle grade fiction. As a teenager James discovered a love of thrilling stories, of being entertained, kept on the edge of your seat, and informed along the way. While still in high school, James developed the idea that would become his first published novel, FOX HUNT (Hachette). James has been a full-time novelist since the age of 25, and has sold over five million of copies of his books around the world.

He has written four series of novels ranging from primary school to middle-grade aged readers with THE LAST THIRTEEN (Scholastic), the ALONE (Lothian) trilogy for teens, and fast paced thrillers such as THE SPY and THE AGENCY (Hachette). He has written a non-fiction book of author interviews, LITERATI (John Wiley), and a book about Donald Trump - which, legally, he cannot yet talk about. Since 2006 he has developed both his own material and original work for film and television for some of the biggest Hollywood studios.

James has a passion for promoting literacy. After studying architecture, he turned to literature, obtaining an MA and then a PhD in Literature. He spent two years as an architect on the Federation Square design team, and five years as a staff writer at The Age newspaper. James is noted for a fast paced and suspenseful writing style that appeals as much to boys as girls. James is a highly entertaining and engaging speaker who has delivered keynotes and presentations for all age groups all around the world, and divides his time between Australia and the USA.
