Award-winning barber, author, public speaker and international educator, Tom Chapman makes his children s book debut!

Tom Chapman s book is simple but brilliant. It will be a huge help for kids who shouldn t be under so much pressure on the sports pitch but feel that they are. - Simon Thomas, author and sports presenter

Abel, his brother Drake and the rest of the Mighty Lions have made it to the final match against the Tigers. They know they have to win the cup, especially as it is expected of them. But with the stakes getting higher as the game progresses, it becomes too much for the young footballers and they crack under the pressure. They lose the match and are disappointed that they ve let everyone down. Worse, they are worried they ve completely failed. But Mum and Dad Lion have some important words for their young cubs: that losing one match doesn t make them failures.

This important picture book portrays the incredible pressure that kids – and especially boys – can face on the sports pitch, and discusses how learning from failure can only make you stronger.

Tom Chapman is the charismatic founder of The Lions Barber Collective, a charity that promotes suicide prevention and awareness, which focusses on men s and boys mental health.

Tom Chapman may in fact be the busiest Barber in the World. With 20 years in the hair industry starting his journey at Toni && Guy he founded his own hair studio in 2011 – Tom Chapman Hair Design, in his hometown of Torquay. He quickly realised that from inside the safe environment of his barbershop there was an opportunity to not only look after what’s on his customers heads, but also what’s inside their heads too. After losing a friend to suicide in 2014 he founded The Lions Barber Collective a year later, which is a group of international Barbers, that educate and raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention, becoming a charity in 2017. This life saving collective have grown into a huge global network, that trains Barbers in BarberTalk training, giving other Barbers the skills to listen and help customers with their mental health and suicide prevention. Leading this groundbreaking collective has led Tom to giving TEDx Talks and gaining coverage on National and International Television and Radio. All spreading the incredible story of The Lions Collective, saving lives along the way. And if that wasn’t enough, he has even found time to film an Amazon Prime Documentary.

Tom is an award winning barber, author, public speaker and life saver. He dived into the world of barbering when he joined Salon Giants Toni && Guy in 2001 where he learnt the tools of the trade as well as mastering all things hair. Whilst running his own studio he’s been all over the world competing in various barber competitions as well as reaching the finals of Wahl Barber of the Year and winning Most Wanted and Modern Barber Awards.

He also consults on many product brands to help test and develop the latest products before they hit the market and he has been published in numerous industry magazines with his work gracing plenty of their front covers. If that didn’t keep him busy enough! in 2015 he founded The Lions Barber Collective. After years of cutting people’s hair, Tom realised that there was an opportunity to not only look after what was on top of his customers head, but also what’s inside of their head too.

Tom went on to creat bespoke BarberTalk training to teach Barbers to RECOGNISE, ASK, LISTEN and HELP and continue to save lives.Since then this has developed into Hair&&BeautyTalk and a non-industry specific version called HereToTalk as well as his latest book How to Listen So Men Will Talk -2022. The training has been completed in its different formats by hair professionals from Hawaii to Kenya and on to Australia.

Off the back of this he’s been invited to deliver talks all over the globe. From TEDx talks to features on the BBC, Channel 4, FOX News (USA) Virgin Radio, TalkSport, BBC4, BBC5 Live, BCC World Service and multiple appearances in national and international press.

Tom has received a Points of Light award for his outstanding volunteer work from the UK Prime Minister Theresa May, The High Sheriff s award and the Police Crime Commissioners Award as well as reaching the 2017 Creative Head’s Most Wanted Finals then winning the same award in 2019 as well as winning awards at the MOBAA’s and from the NHS. Tom Published his first book The Barber Boom in 2018, before signing a publishing deal with his second book BarberTalk in 2019, his debut Children s book The Mighty Lions and the Big Match in 2021 and How to Listen so Men Will Talk in 2022.
