About the Author

Christy Mihaly is a nature lover and former lawyer who writes books, primarily nonfiction, for young readers. In 2022, she published two picture books: THE SUPREME COURT AND US, an introduction to the nation's highest court; and PATIENCE, PATCHES!, a fictional tale about a dog and a new baby.Christy's 2021 picture book, Barefoot Books WATER: A Deep Dive of Discovery, takes young readers on a round-the-world tour of our planet's precious and powerful water. FREE FOR YOU AND ME (2020) is a poetic introduction to the First Amendment freedoms, in picture book form.Among Christy's other books are HEY, HEY, HAY! (A Tale of Bales and the Machines That Make Them), a rhyming picture book that follows a mother-daughter team making hay on the family farm, and DIET FOR A CHANGING CLIMATE: Food for Thought, which seeks to inspire older kids to action with facts about climate change and suggestions for "taking a bite out of climate change" by changing what we eat.Christy has also written longer nonfiction for older grades on topics including Free Speech and Freedom of the Press. She also writes poetry, articles, stories, games and activities for kids' magazines. She does her writing under the supervision of her dog and cat, overlooking the forests and fields of Vermont.
