HarperCollins is proud to present its incredible range of best-loved, essential classics. 'There was a contagion in the very air that blew from that haunted region; it breathed forth an atmosphere of dreams and fancies infecting all the land.' Featuring 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow' and 'Rip Van Winkle', this collection of inspired essays, stories and sketches established Washington Irving's reputation as one of America's foremost authors. Irving's timeless characters, including Ichabod Crane, Rip Van Winkle and the headless Hessian trooper, jostle for space alongside 31 equally atmospheric and lyrical works in this haunting anthology from one of America's most distinctive literary voices.

Krista Madsen (1973-) is the mother of girls and the author of novels: Four Corners and Degas Must Have Loved a Dancer, both published by Livingston Press. Born and raised in Bristol, CT, she received her BA in English from Yale University and her MFA in fiction from The New School. For five years, she owned and operated Stain Arts Lounge in Brooklyn. She has worked as an editor, writing teacher, project manager and full-time journalist. She now lives in Sleepy Hollow, NY where is Managing Director of the Hudson Valley Writers Center. She runs an annual #SleepyHollowShorts 30-second film festival, and is on the steering committee of the Sleepy Hollow Lit Fest.

In addition to her novels, her short fiction and essays have been printed in The Citizen, 11211, Lit, Small Spiral Notebook, Urban Folk, Driftwood, and the River Styx; anthologized in Hunger and Thirst and My Little Red Book; and found online on Defenestrationism, Sunday Salon Magazine, All Things Girl, Reading Divas, Front Street Review, Emerging Writers Forum, Bite Magazine, Suitcase, and MiPOesias. She wrote the introduction about Washington Irving s life and legend for the 2017 RacePoint Publishing flexibound edition of Irving s The Sketch Book called The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Other Stories.
