Sara has lived like a princess with her wealthy father Captain Crewe in India. She lost her mother when she was born but she hardly felt the pain of her death as her father has always doted on her. She loves him immensely too. A highly imaginative child, Sara is fond of telling stories and this is what her father loves most about her. He hates the idea of living without her but Sara is seven now and needs good education for a future life. That is why he has brought her to London. They will spend several days together in London and then he will leave her at Miss Minchin s boarding school where an unforeseen life awaits her.

Frances Hodgson Burnett was born in England in 1849. She was only three years old when her father died. Consequently, her family faced financial issues and moved to America in 1865. It was there to support her family that Burnett started publishing her early works in magazines. This sharpened her writing skills and she wrote her first novel That Lass O Lorrie s in 1877. There was no stopping her then. She wrote many fictional and dramatic works of which most enduring are her two children novels A Little Princess and The Secret Garden. Burnett died in 1924.
