A multiple-time New York Times Best-seller List Author (hitting both #1 and #2 spots) and Eagle Award winning Writer, Tony Lee was born in West London, UK in 1970.

A professional writer for almost thirty years, including a decade in trade journalism and media marketing/creation for radio, since returning to comics in 2003 he has written for a variety of publishers including Marvel Comics, DC Comics / Zuda, Games Workshop, Dynamite Entertainment, Panini Comics, Titan Publishing, AAM / Markosia Enterprises, Rebellion / 2000ad, Arcana Studios and IDW Publishing amongst others, writing a variety of creator owned titles and licenses that include X-Men, Spider Man, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who, Superboy, Starship Troopers, Wallace && Gromit and Shrek.

He has been the writer of both the ongoing Tenth Doctor and Eleventh Doctor Doctor Who series of comics from IDW, and his award nominated, creator-owned miniseries Hope Falls was collected by AAM/Markosia in May 2009, with an ‘Ultimate Edition’ released in June 2011. His next book, From The Pages Of Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’: Harker, was the only Graphic Novel sequel to Dracula ever to gain endorsement from the Stoker family.

Added to this, Tony adapted Pride && Prejudice && Zombies into a graphic novel for Del Rey Publishing, with art by Cliff Richards. He is also adapting Anthony Horowitz’s Power of Five series into graphic format for Walker Books; the first, Raven’s Gate came out in late 2010, with Evil Star and Nightrise both coming out in 2014. He adapted four Horowitz Horror books with Dan Boultwood for Hachette Children’s Books as well as writing four Sherlock Holmes: The Baker Street Irregulars graphic novels for them.

His other books with Walker Books, as part of his ‘Heroes and Heroines’ line of Graphic Novels with artist Sam Hart are Outlaw: The Legend Of Robin Hood (released in 2009), Excalibur: The Legend Of King Arthur (released in 2011), Messenger: The Legend of Joan Of Arc (released in 2014) and he’s currently working with Sam on book four, Pirate Queen: The Legend of Grace O’Malley, released in April 2019.

For MTV he wrote The Gloom with Dan Boultwood, and Agent Mom with Stargate Universe / Smallville actress Alaina Huffman.

In 2012 he released a five part MacGyver series for Image, with MacGyver creator Lee David Zlotoff, and was involved on issues #1 to #4 of the IDW comics Star Trek: The Next Generation / Doctor Who comic crossover. In May 2012 his Doctor Who #12 issue won the Eagle Award for ‘Favourite Single Story’. In 2013 his Penguin Teen adaptations of Heather Brewer’s Vladimir Tod series began, and his first DC work on Superboy was released. In 2013 his Hollowland adaptation The Hollows started a bi-weekly release from Dynamite Entertainment, who he also penned four part Battlestar Galactica: Starbuck and Steampunk Battlestar Galactica: 1880 series for. He also returned to Doctor Who to pen the last of the ongoing run before IDW lost the license in 2013. His adaptation of his Also Known As screenplay, was launched as a 132 page Graphic Novel at the 2016 San Diego Comic Con.

Recently he has returned to Hachette with a series of children’s GNs under the ‘Bandits’ imprint in 2018, with titles including Mister Clip Clop – Intergalactic Space Unicorn, Teacher Creatures, Space Corps, Grandpa’s Goalscarers, The Timely Adventures of Captain Clock, The Great Pet Shop Rescue, My Little Brother’s a Zombie and Agent of P.A.W.S.

Outside of comics he has written several novels aimed at reluctant readers, with Stalker, Mister Scratch, Noticed, Doctor Jekyll and Little Miss Hyde, Otis and Jigsaw Lady published by Badger Learning, and GamerHate published by Ransom Publishing.

He’s written several audio plays for Big Finish Audio – the first of these, Doctor Who: Rat Trap features the Fifth Doctor, Tegan, Nyssa and Turlough. The next one, Private Enemy No. 1 was part of the September Bernice Summerfield – Epoch set and the third, Vesuvius Falling is part of the Bernice Summerfield – Legion box set. In addition he wrote a Confessions of Dorian Grey Christmas special, featuring Nicholas Briggs recreating his role as Sherlock Holmes, and in 2018 wrote a full cast Robin of Sherwood audio for Spiteful Puppet / ITV, adapted his Dodge && Twist novel into a 12-part full cast audio for Audible, who he has also adapted 20 Thousand Leagues Under The Sea for, adapting into a five hour full cast drama.

In screenplay work, he’s written a futuristic Robin Hood project for Gianni Nunarri’s Hollywood Gang (300, The Departed), and his other screenplays currently in development include Thirty Nine Steps (Damage Cat Entertainment), wrestling comedy In The Ring with wrestling legends Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian and the an adaptation of his GN Hope Falls.

He also wrote an episode of the BBC One drama Doctors – his episode ‘In Her Shoes‘ aired in May 2017.

Tony is represented in the UK by the JFL Agency (Film / TV).

Added to this Tony is an accomplished storyteller and lecturer on writing, and has performed his ‘Change The Channel’ tour at libraries, events and schools around the world including the 2009 and 2011 Edinburgh International Book Festivals, The Bath Literary Festival, the Newcastle Children’s Book Festival, a 2009 tour of India for the British Council, the 2014 ‘ComicPalooza’ Texas International Comic Con, and in 2003 around the Wadi Rum bedouin campfire in Jordan. He also gave a reduced version of it for the BBC as part of their ‘Inside Out’ series.

Tony is a full member of the Writer’s Guild of Great Britain, the Royal Television Society and the Society of Authors.

He currently lives in Kent with his wife, Tracy and his dog, Fosco.
