The Elements of Style is a most handy manual of American English usage. Originally written for one of Strunk’s courses at Cornell University in 1919 and later published by his son Oliver Strunk in 1935, it gives advice on usage and composition, discusses form, and highlights common expression and spelling errors. It also offers invaluable exercises to further improve the writing skills of the readers. Its contents may be similar to other such volumes but its precision and lucidity have made it indispensable for both students and writers of English language since its first publication
