Victor Frankenstein dreams of creating life. As lightning flashes across the sky, his creature stirs. Will it be the perfect being he imagines, or a monster?

Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin Shelley was born on August 30, 1797, in London, England, to Mary Wollstonecraft, the famous feminist, and her husband William Godwin, the philosopher and political writer. She published her first poem Mounseer Nongtongpaw in 1807 through her father s company. She married poet Percy Shelley in 1816 and two years later published her first novel Frankenstein. She wrote several other books including Valpegra (1823), The Last Man (1826), and the autobiographical Lodore (1835). Mary Shelley is often credited with being the first ever science fiction writer in English. She died on February 1, 1851.
