Fern Jenkins' life is changed for ever when her brother is killed in action and her father dies in a mining explosion. Turned out of their home by the ruthless pit owner, Fern and her mother Wynne are forced to seek a new life in Cardiff. Whilst Wynne finds work in a factory, Fern attends the local school. But here she is bullied and is soon selling flowers outside Cardiff Central station to help make ends meet. When her mother is taken from her in an influenza epidemic, Fern has no one to protect her from her violent and possessive uncle. She longs to escape from the brutality and squalor around her and make something of herself. But with no money and her only friend away at sea, there seems little hope of her ever leaving her life of poverty behind, let alone finding the love she so yearns for... www.rbooks.co.uk www.rosiebooks.co.uk

Marion Rose Harris (known professionally as Rosie Harris) is a British author of romantic fiction. Her work is mainly set in Liverpool and Cardiff in the 1920s and 1930s.

Hello, my name is Marion Rose Harris and welcome to my Author page!

Since 2000 I have written 24 sagas published by Heinemann/Arrow as Rosie Harris. The backgrounds of these books alternate between Cardiff and Merseyside, and span the period 1900-1930. They touch on the exceptionally difficult circumstances many of the women of that era had to face. I hope you enjoy reading my sagas as much as I enjoyed writing them and agree that they pay tribute to the fighting spirit of the courageous women of those days.

More recently, I ve also had the pleasure to expand my collection with a further 10 books, published by Severn House. These books have largely retained the wartime settings of my previous books, but I ve also ventured into new territory. For example, my novels Moving On, The Mixture as Before, Never Too Old to Love, and A Mind of Her Own all took on a modern twist, drawing on my life experiences in my later years. Whilst Hell Hath No Fury was my first detective novel and a pleasure to write.

A bit about me and my life: I was born in Cardiff, but grew up in Dorset. When I left school I went back to Cardiff and worked as a clerk in the City Hall until I married and moved to Wallasey.

Ten years and three children later we moved from Merseyside to Buckinghamshire where we have lived ever since. Our children have all made their homes in the area and I now have six grandchildren and an ever-growing number of great-grandchildren!

I started writing in the 1950s and, as a freelance, wrote for the Liverpool Echo and many national magazines on fashion, homemaking and health topics as Marion Harris

Throughout the 1960 s I ran my own agency –Regional Feature Service - supplying articles on a wide variety of topics to provincial newspapers.

During the 70 s I was Editorial Controller for a non-fiction publisher.

I joined the RNA in the 1970s and had fiction published by Hale, Sphere and Magna as well as non-fiction by various publishers.
