About the Author

Professor Sara Ashencaen Crabtree MA, PhD, DipSW, FRSA, FHEA is Professor of Social && Cultural Diversity in the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences at Bournemouth University (BU), South England. She is also a founding member and co-convenor of the Women s Academic Network at BU and has held the roles of Head of Sociology, Deputy Director of the Centre for Social Work, Sociology && Social Policy and Chair of the International Strategy Group at the same institution. Her academic background straddles the social sciences where she has a background in both sociology, anthropology and social work. She has enjoyed a flourishing international, academic career to-date, having worked extensively in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Consequently her research interests reflect an abiding and deep fascination with culture and diversity with a particular focus on marginalisation. She has published widely on mental health issues in Southeast Asia, as well as minority ethnic communities in Hong Kong. She retains a deep interest in the Middle East in relation to faith, social change and social welfare, as well as being very interested in international social work. She is the Editor-in-Chief of `Critical Studies in Socio-Cultural Diversity’, a new book series for Whiting && Birch Publishers that seeks to promote and publish scholarly monographs and edited collections in the social sciences.
